Deferred but not deterred ...

I wish all of our decision making body could read this article. He cleary points out the importance of staying the course in middle level philosophy and the troubles with being successful. What really stuck out to me from a school sense were his comments on the staying power of traditional methods. His insight on "escaping from old habits" is one that certainly rings true in all middle schools, but especially so in high schools. This can be a real barrier to overcome when trying to get away from teacher isolation and open up classrooms for successful teaming.

  1. I haven't been teaching very long at all, but it seems like our schools haven't caught on yet. In any other walk of life, if somethings isn't working we would try something new! Everything we read about curriculum says that a good curriculum, student directed learning, and flexibility will automatically lead to a more in depth knowledge for students, it will lead to higher test scores. What we are doing right now is not working! We need to not fear new and unknown pedagogy.
